Growth in International Enrollment for U.S. Graduate Programs
Inbound and outbound undergraduate study abroad programs saw enrollment rates spike last year because students were eager to expand their education globally after the pandemic shut down most programs. According to the Council of Graduate Schools’ Graduate Enrollment and Degrees 2012-2022 report, we are seeing the same sentiment in graduate programs, specifically for international enrollment in U.S. graduate programs. The report shows first-time international graduate enrollment increased by 10.2% between the fall of 2021 and the fall of 2022 compared to a 4.7% decrease in first-time domestic enrollment during that same time period. International graduate students are enrolling in mathematics, computer science, biological and agriculture sciences, and physical and earth sciences. The report also found that more first-time international graduate students enrolled at private, not-for-profit universities (33.2%) than at public universities (25%). |

“The person who answered the phone was very patient and thorough in understanding my issue and tried different ways to help. Then she connected me with another department, and the other person was also very helpful. He successfully solved the problem for me.”
